Monty Python Joke Censored In New Show

(RepublicanView.org) – A stage performance of the Monty Python classic The Life of Brian is to be edited to take account of “woke” sensibilities. The show has been cut to exclude a scene where a male character says he wants to have babies.

In the original movie, a character named Stan decides he wants to be called Loretta and fight for his right to give birth. Fellow characters ridicule him and ask why he wants to fight for the right to have babies when he cannot biologically give birth. It is one of the fans’ favorite moments but will not appear in stage performances.

After a script reading in New York last year, producers told Monty Python icon John Cleese, “We love the script, but you can’t do that stuff about Loretta nowadays.”

When the film was released in 1979, the Catholic Church and other Christian denominations condemned it, but some commentators believe offending trans activists today will have much more severe consequences. In July last year, John Cleese said, “ I think it’s particularly worrying at the moment because you can only create an atmosphere of freedom where you’re not checking everything you say critically before you move on.”

Cleese came under fire recently when his remarks on Twitter led to accusations of transphobia. He agreed with embattled Harry Potter creator JK Rowling on the importance of biology and was immediately denounced. He said Rowling was the victim of “an insidious, authoritarian, and misogynistic trend in social media.”

The iconic comedian has complained about so-called “cancel culture” and even spoke against mass immigration into his native United Kingdom. In 2019, he publicly stated that the UK capital London was “no longer English.” He also said the city, the largest in Europe, is the “world center for Russian dirty money laundering.”

The comedian has refused to apologize for the remarks. London Mayor Sadiq Khan confronted Cleese in 2019 and told him that “diversity” is London’s great strength.
