Millions Cross Border Under Biden

(RepublicanView.org) – Almost five million people have crossed the border illegally since Joe Biden entered the White House. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) provided the figures during a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee meeting on April 18th. He called on Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign.

“Basically, what we’re looking at is, 22 states have populations less than four million people. 28 states have populations less than five million people. That is the magnitude of the problem,” the Senator said.

The Center for Immigration Studies largely agreed with Johnson’s figures. It said it had calculated a figure of 3.4 million while conceding that this is a conservative estimate and adding that the federal government does not actually know how many people are in the US or where they come from.

Last year, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimated that the real number is even higher. The group alleges that the Biden administration is deliberately concealing the extent of the crisis to facilitate its continuation. FAIR claims that around 5.5 million migrants have arrived since the start of this administration. The group also called for Mayorkas to step down.

Dan Stein, president of FAIR, said, “Nothing will improve until there is a public servant leading the Department of Homeland Security who believes in borders—and secure ones at that.”

The latest figures from the government show a 25% increase in border crossers in March 2023. This figure has risen every year under President Biden. US Border Patrol agents report 162,000 migrant crossings in March – up from 130,000 in February.

Secretary Mayorkas expects the numbers to increase even further as Title 42 comes to an end in May. This Trump-era legislation allows officials to expel migrants without hearing asylum claims. Mayorkas estimates that thousands more people will enter America daily. He insisted however that securing the border remains his top priority.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) later said he would file impeachment articles against Mayorkas.
