Aide To Eric Adams Reportedly Cooperating With the Feds

( – One of the city hall aides for New York City mayor Eric Adams is reportedly cooperating with federal officials as they investigate a possible corruption case against Adams.

The aide, Rana Abbasova, has reportedly served as a liaison between Adams and the city’s Turkish community. She is believed to have been associated with or known about his dealings Turkish government officials. She has been placed on leave by city hall as the investigation continues.

Adams is being investigated to determine whether his campaign illegally funneled foreign donations from Turkish officials to his campaign for mayor. Additionally, authorities are looking into whether he used his position to pressure local fire department officials into approving a new skyscraper for the Turkish consulate despite concerns about safety. The building was opened shortly after he won the election. However, officials had initially closed it over significant concerns.

Abbasova has not publicized her knowledge of the alleged corruption or the details she has shared. However, her position as the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs’ director of protocol meant that she worked with engagement between the mayor’s office and foreign officials. She was also directly involved with the scheduling and coordination of related meetings and other events, both domestically and overseas. She also traveled with him during at least two trips to Türkiye.

Abbasova herself is originally from Azerbaijan, a nation that rests at the eastern boundary of Europe and the western border of the Middle East. The 41-year-old spent about four years working for Adams before he was elected mayor. She has maintained contact with FBI officials ever since agents raided her home in November 2023. They also searched homes belonging to his top fundraiser, a Turkish national who previously served as an executive for Turkish Airlines.

Officials have not publicly accused Abbasova of committing any crimes. They also have not discussed whether an agreement was reached to encourage her cooperation.
