US Military Bases in Europe on Alert Due To Terror Concerns

(RepublicanView.org) – US Military bases in Europe have been placed on heightened alert due to concerns about terror attacks. Officials have remained tight-lipped on the details. However, the threat level is known as “Charlie” and applies when “an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist action or targeting against personnel or facilities is likely,” the US Army confirmed.

Officials have also stated that the threat has not been so high in a decade. The US Army garrison in Stuttgart, Germany, where US European Command is headquartered, has reportedly been impacted by an alert. There are also areas in Italy and other places that have reportedly been affected.

While no details of the threat were publicized, there have been several high-profile events in Europe. Elections in the UK and France have increased tensions, with Paris experiencing rioting after Marine Le Pen’s victory in the first round of French Parliamentary elections and the Olympic Games looming. Germany is currently hosting the European soccer championships, and hundreds of additional police officers have been deployed. An expert also spoke on CBS Morning News, indicating that The New York Times has reported on “vague” threats from Russia regarding “retribution.”

The US has over a dozen European military bases, mainly in Germany but also in Belgium, Italy, and the UK. The US Army Garrison in Stuttgart is home to more than 20,000 troops and several units, including Marine Forces Europe and Africa, and United States Africa Command.

The United Kingdom hosts much of America’s Europe-based air force, including Royal Air Force Lakenheath, the US launching pad for air-based missions to the Middle East. In the 1950s, it was America’s primary Cold War base, and some of the most advanced military aircraft were housed there.

More than 35,000 US troops were based in Germany in 2022, the highest of any European country. Italy had the second highest with over 12,000 active US service personnel, with the UK in third place with close to 10,000.
