John Cleese Sets Record Straight On Controversial Scene

(RepublicanView.org) – British comedian John Cleese is going to war with “wokeness” as he refuses to remove sections of old Monty Python sketches. Newspapers initially reported that Cleese planned to pulp the famous “Loretta” scene from a stage remake of The Life of Brian. However, the legendary performer said he has no intention of changing the script to pander to modern-day “woke” sensibilities.

The confusion arose when Cleese told an audience in London that a rewrite of the Life of Brian was discussed in New York. He was advised that the “Loretta” scene should be cut. While recounting the story, Cleese did not make it clear that he will refuse to change or remove the famous gag.

The scene in question stars Cleese discussing a character’s “right” to have babies. The male character in question insists that despite not having a womb and the physical ability to give birth, he still intends to fight for his right to do so.

“I want to be a woman. It’s my right as a man,” the character says. Cleese claimed some of the American reviewers said the scene will likely be described as “transphobic.”

It is not the first time Cleese has been given that label. On his Twitter account in 2020, he expressed sympathy with embattled Harry Potter creator JK Rowling, who has received death threats for stating that biology is real and people cannot transform from male to female or vice versa. He signed a letter in the UK’s Sunday Times supporting Rowling and was immediately accused of spreading hate and attacking a “marginalized” trans community.

JK Rowling’s transphobia accusations began when she responded to a tweet mentioning “people who menstruate.” She said, “I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

Trans activists have subjected her to threats, protests outside her home, and social media attacks ever since. At Pride events, t-shirts emblazoned with “Kill JK Rowling” are frequently sighted
