Dan Schneider Responds After Allegations

(RepublicanView.org) – Former Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider has responded to claims made in a recent documentary, “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” Schneider said the documentary was “embarrassing” and claimed it made him reflect on his past behavior, for which he apologized.

Schneider, who produced some of Nickelodeon’s most popular shows, left the network in 2018, but young actors in the documentary alleged he abused them, behaved inappropriately, and created a toxic work environment. Asked about providing massages to young stars in a recent conversation with Bobbie K. Bowman, Schneider said, “It was wrong that I ever put anybody in that position.”

The former producer furthermore claimed that modern adults are looking at content from 20 years ago through a contemporary lens, and some of the jokes may, therefore, seem inappropriate. Still, he insisted that numerous network executives approved these at the time.

Drake Bell, who starred in “Drake and Josh,” spoke in “Quiet on Set,” discussing allegations against dialog coach Brian Peck, who worked with Schneider on “All That” and “The Amanda Show.”

Bell said Peck repeatedly assaulted him as a child, and in 2004, Mr. Peck pleaded no contest to charges involving these allegations. He spent 16 months in prison and was released in 2005, after which the Disney Channel hired him to work on “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.”

Following Bell’s participation in “Quiet on Set,” Josh Peck (no relation to Brian Peck), who worked with Drake on “Drake and Josh,” reportedly reached out to his former co-star. Bell posted a video to TikTok saying Peck had contacted him privately to offer support but was unwilling to speak publicly. Bell urged his fans to “take it a little easy” on Peck after backlash ensued. Peck later released a statement addressing the situation.

In 2021, Bell was himself charged with inappropriate behavior toward minors, pleading guilty to exchanging inappropriate text messages with an underage girl. Though he pleaded guilty, he maintained that he didn’t know the girl’s age and stopped exchanging messages with her as soon as he found out she was a minor. He also said nothing explicit was ever exchanged between them.
