Authorities Provide Update on Death of McConnell's Sister-in-Law

(RepublicanView.org) – The Blanco County Sheriff’s Office has released information on the death of Mitch McConnell’s sister-in-law. Angela Chao died on February 10 after reversing her Tesla into a pond in Johnson City, Texas. The incident happened immediately after the billionaire shipping CEO dined with friends at a party on a vast ranch near Austin and backed the car into water near a guest lodge on the property. Media reports say friends rushed to the scene and attempted to rescue Ms. Chao but were unsuccessful.

Amber Keinan, a friend, explained it took around eight minutes for the 50-year-old’s car to sink with Chao trapped inside. Ms. Chao reportedly “said her goodbyes” to Keinan as she realized her death was imminent.

Police and rescuers arrived and swam under the water to find the vehicle, after which they smashed the window, located the victim, and pulled her ashore. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigations reveal that Ms. Chao was heavily intoxicated at the time, with a blood alcohol content three times the legal level. Video from the scene shows the CEO wobbling unsteadily toward her vehicle after she decided to drive to her lodgings mid-celebration. Police located her car around 25 yards from the shore.

The 4,500-acre ranch is owned by a corporation with business links to her husband, Jim Breyer – a billionaire venture capitalist and part owner of the Boston Celtics. James S.C. Chao, the woman’s father, issued a statement on behalf of the wealthy family, saying, “Her absence leaves a void not only in our hearts but in the Asian-American community.”

Ms. Chao was the sister of Elaine Chao, who is married to Republican Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell. She was CEO of the Foremost Group, a shipping firm headquartered in New York City. The businesswoman was the youngest of six sisters whose parents moved to the United States from China in the 1950s. Senator McConnell said it was a particularly difficult time for his family.
