(RepublicanView.org) – A woman in Australia has finally been arrested after she stole a truck filled with donuts, leading authorities on a two week chase.
The 28-year-old woman, whose identity has not been released by authorities, stole the truck on November 29th from a gas station in suburban Sydney at around 3:30 in the morning. She was described as possibly being of Aboriginal descent. She was also initially described as having long, dark hair and aged in her early 30s. Footage shows her loitering around the station before jumping into the van and driving away. She was also seen wearing dark clothing.
The truck was storing about 10,000 donuts when the incident occurred. Officials said they had all been destroyed or spoiled by the time the truck was discovered. Police found it abandoned ten days after it was stolen. They continued following leads for a few more days until they caught up to and apprehended the thief. She was found at Penrith’s St. Mary’s Railway on December 14.
The suspect faces charges related to theft and operating a vehicle without a valid license or ticket. She was not granted bail and has already attended her initial court appearance. Officials said the investigation remains underway. They have not yet announced a motive for the crime. Vehicle thefts in Australia can lead to prison sentences as long as ten years.
Krispy Kreme, the owner of the truck and donuts, released a statement assuring customers that it was working hard to replace the lost donuts. Several of the donuts were themed for Christmas in celebration of the upcoming holiday. Police cast a dragnet soon after the crime to catch the suspect.
The driver of the truck was on a delivery run and was paying the clerk for fuel when the incident occurred. He is not suspected of working with the woman.
