(RepublicanView.org) – Former wrestling manager Tammy Sytch, known as Sunny, has been sentenced to nearly two decades in jail for killing a 75-year-old Floridian man while driving under the influence of alcohol last year. The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) icon received a 17-year jail term, followed by ten years’ probation and a $10,000 fine. She pleaded no contest to driving drunk in Daytona Beach in 2022 and crashing into Julian Lassiter and causing his death.
Mr. Lassiter’s family say they are disheartened by the sentence. According to reports, his daughter Whitney Lassiter-Hill said, “We are a little bit disappointed in the outcome. I think it should’ve been longer.”
The 50-year-old former wrestler apologized to the family and said she would happily trade places with Mr. Lassiter. She added that her focus now is on making “the changes I need to make sure this never happens again.” Sytch had been arrested several times for driving under the influence, and her license was suspended at the time of the fatal crash in Florida.
Tammy Sytch first appeared in entertainment wrestling in 1993, where she played a villain and fan of Hillary Clinton. A year later, she signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), remaining until 1998 under the name Tamara Murphy. During that time, she teamed up with boyfriend and fellow wrestler Chris Candido, appearing as Sunny and Skip. She joined Extreme Championship Wrestling after the WWF and would eventually go into wrestler management and promoted Chris Candido until he died in 2005.
Sytch’s career was mired with rumors of alcohol and drug abuse, and in 2013, she served 114 days in a Connecticut prison for assaulting Mr. Candido after a bout of heavy drinking. In prison, she underwent treatment for cervical cancer and penned her autobiography entitled “A Star Shattered.” Upon her release, the court ordered her to enter an inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility.
