Lou Dobbs Has Died at 78

(RepublicanView.org) – Conservative commentator Lou Dobbs has died at age 78. His death was announced on his official Twitter account, but no cause of death was provided. Dobbs was best known for his nightly “Lou Dobbs Tonight” show on Fox News and had earlier worked with CNN. He also founded the Space.com website, which explores astronomy and skywatching.

Born in Texas, Dobbs grew up in Idaho and graduated from Harvard with an economics degree in 1967. In the early 1980s, he served as CNN’s chief economics correspondent before rising to its executive committee. When Rick Kaplan became CNN president in 1997, Dobbs announced his departure, saying Kaplan was biased toward Democrats. By 2000, however, he had returned. He hosted various shows before leaving again nine years later after running into trouble with management for suggesting President Barack Obama was not born in the United States and therefore not a viable candidate for the presidency.

Having expressed several contentious views, including a firm stance against immigration, Dobbs joined Fox in 2010 and debuted his own show a year later. Mr. Dobbs was named in the Dominion Voting Systems against Fox in 2021 when it successfully sued the network.

A staunch Trump supporter, Dobbs called for a war against “the deep state.” He also accused the Department of Justice and FBI of persecuting conservative voices. Nevertheless, Dobbs was also known in the past to support unions and has reportedly described himself as pro-choice. In his book “The War on the Middle Class,” Dobbs denounced George W. Bush’s tax cuts for favoring the rich and argued for a higher national minimum wage.

Fox News Media issued a statement to mark Dobbs’s death, saying he had an incredible business mind and a gift for broadcasting. “We are immensely grateful for his many contributions and send our heartfelt condolences to his family,” the statement read.
