Governor Youngkin Honors Firefighter Who Was Fatally Wounded at Trump Rally

(RepublicanView.org) – Helen Comperatore’s husband, firefighter Corey Comperatore, was shot and killed at a Trump event in Pennsylvania over the weekend. Trump, who sustained a minor wound from the same gunman, reportedly called Helen after her husband died while trying to protect his family at the rally in Butler.

After the death of Core Comperatore, Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin of Virginia ordered the U.S. and state flags “flown at half-staff” on Monday to honor him.

Youngkin said that Virginia stands with and offers prayers to all Pennsylvanians, especially victims of the shooter.

Youngkin’s order stated that flags would be lowered at Noon on Monday, July 15, 2024, and remain at half-staff until sunset on July 16, 2024.

At the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department, where Corey was the chief,

Assistant Chief Ricky Heasley was in the firehouse on Monday to talk about funeral plans for Comperatore. Corey was the only person killed when a shooter allegedly opened fire at a Trump event in the county on Saturday, although Trump and two other people were injured.

Comperatore’s family said that on Thursday, his friends and family would gather in Freeport, a small town on the Allegheny River, to pay their respects.

The funeral was set to be held at his old church in Butler County on Friday.

Kelly Comperatore Meeder, Corey Comperatore’s sister, said that on Monday night, members of the family also talked to Trump campaign staff.

Ms. Comperatore Meeder said that the family had turned down President Joe Biden’s offer to talk. According to Helen Comperatore, she felt no resentment toward Biden but believed her husband wouldn’t want her to talk to him.

Corey Comperatore, who was 50 years old, was a supporter of Trump and was excited to meet the former president for the first time in person on Saturday. Some of Biden’s critics have suggested that some of his rhetoric regarding Trump may have contributed to conditions to the shooting. Corey Comperatore’s wife, however, said she did not think Biden did anything to hurt her husband. No motive has been confirmed by authorities as of this time.
