(RepublicanView.org) – E. Jean Carroll, a columnist who sued former president Donald Trump for defamation, told MSNBC that she is “more than willing” to sue him again if another case came up.
A court ordered Trump to pay Carroll a staggering $83.3 million after he was accused of defaming her in his denial of her assault allegations. The penalty comes a year after he was forced to pay Carroll $5 million in damages for assault and defamation. Trump claimed that he had no idea who Carroll even was before the allegations. There was not enough evidence to formally charge Trump with a crime in the investigation.
Neither Trump nor Carroll can touch the $83.3 million as he appeals the decision. He also said that he’s searching for a new defense team to spearhead his appeal. Trump said he is currently in contact with several firms. He originally relied on the same legal team that’s leading his defense against allegations of fraud in New York. That team is led by Alina Habba of New Jersey. She has been blasted for her performance in the trial and has been accused of unprofessional behavior. However, there hasn’t yet been an indication of whether she will be removed from Trump’s fraud case.
According to Newsweek, one legal expert has said Trump is already at risk of another lawsuit from Carroll. He reportedly published over 30 social media posts about her on January 19 with links to defamatory articles. Law professor Stephen Gillers reportedly said that sharing defamatory content can make one liable for defamation themselves.
Carroll made the remarks during an interview with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow. She also made jokes about the shopping spree that she’s going to enjoy with Trump’s money and offered to take Maddow with her. Maddow called the outcome a victory for women’s rights.
