China Hits Out at NATO

(RepublicanView.org) – China has lashed out verbally at NATO, calling its “success” an “enormous danger to the world.” The condemnation came following the military alliance’s assertion that Beijing is a “decisive enabler” of the Russian war with Ukraine. All 32 NATO members approved the accusation against China, which experts call the strongest NATO criticism of the Chinese government to date. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian later said “turmoil and chaos” follow NATO wherever it goes, and its security is built upon other people’s insecurity. He added that the alliance creates “imaginary enemies” to boost its strength.

Just days after denying any assistance to Russia, China teamed up with the Kremlin’s forces to conduct joint military exercises. The Chinese Defense Ministry said the two countries were combining their efforts to confront security threats in the northern Pacific and had no intention of targeting any nation. Additionally, China insisted the exercises had no connection to global geopolitics or international grievances.

While it vehemently denies aiding Russia in its war with Ukraine, China is one of few nations to maintain relations with Moscow in the wake of its Ukrainian invasion. The Chinese government said it does not provide arms to Moscow, but US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken insisted it is nevertheless providing vital components for weapons manufacturing. “Those are being used to help Russia on what’s an extraordinary crash course effort to make more munitions,” Blinken said.

The Secretary of State furthermore asserted that 70% of tools and 90% of microelectronics used by the Kremlin are supplied by Beijing.

In May, the federal government announced sanctions against firms based in China and Hong Kong, accused of providing drone equipment to Moscow or helping companies to sidestep previously implemented US sanctions. China once again denied American claims and said it is legitimately trading in dual-purpose items and doing so in accordance with international law. Beijing is Russia’s primary supplier; in 2023, trade between the two nations was up 64% from 2021, reaching a record $240 billion.
