Bob Menendez Not Running in Democratic Primary

(RepublicanView.org) – Senator Bob Menedez (D-NJ) announced on March 24 that he will not campaign for another term as a Democrat in light of corruption charges.

However, he did hint at the possibility of campaigning as an Independent candidate. He also claimed in the announcement video that he believes he will be exonerated early in the summer, giving him enough time to revamp his campaign under a new affiliation. He also claimed to be a “champion” for his district and promised to help secure Americans’ financial futures in pursuing college, home ownership, and raising families.

However, the strong influence of Democrats in New Jersey makes it unlikely that Menedez will succeed as an Independent. He would be running against Tammy Murphy, wife of current Democrat Governor Phil Murphy, and Representative Andy Kim. Both are currently leading the polls for the state’s primary.

Menedez and his wife are facing obstruction charges after allegedly attempting to obscure bribery funds sent by several business owners in his state. According to allegations, the couple told lawyers to claim several bribery payments were mistaken as loans. Jose Uribe, one of several businessmen named in the case, purchased a luxury car for Mrs. Menendez in exchange for beneficial favors. Uribe pleaded guilty to seven counts, while Menedez and his wife have maintained their innocence. He addressed constituents in an online video acknowledging their pain while pleading with them to withhold judgment as proceedings continue.

Menedez is also accused of acting as a foreign agent to the Middle Eastern countries of Qatar and Egypt after accepting bribes in the form of luxurious jewelry, cash, and even gold bars. He offered official favors to the countries in exchange for gifts, according to the lawsuit. He also claimed that he served his constituents well during Hurricane Sandy and the 2020 health emergency.
