(RepublicanView.org) – President Biden has reacted angrily to claims that his memory has faded following the decision not to prosecute him for retaining classified files. In a news briefing, the President said his “memory is fine” and “has not gotten worse” over the course of his Presidency.
The press conference came after Special Counsel Robert Hur released his report into the classified documents investigation, for which he sat with Biden for five hours questioning him. Mr. Hur concluded that prosecuting the President would be difficult because a jury would likely view him as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
Biden quickly responded in a briefing, denying that there was anything wrong with his memory. He also responded to claims that he couldn’t remember when his son passed away, demanding, “How the h*ll dare he raise that?” He insisted that while he was “elderly,” he knew what he was doing and had put the US “back on its feet.
Biden has said his staff was responsible for the classified documents oversight, and that he did not know that such files had been placed in his home. He stated his only regret was failing to oversee his staff members’ activities.
During a news conference, Vice President Kamala Harris condemned special counsel the report and said the comments surrounding the President’s memory are “politically motivated.” Harris, calling on her experience as a former prosecutor, said the remarks were “gratuitous, inaccurate and inappropriate.” The Vice President repeated White House claims that the interview with Robert Hur took place last October, immediately after the Hamas terror attack on Israel, and the President was preoccupied during an “intense moment.”
The controversial report has increased speculation about Biden’s mental acuity and has prompted a ferocious reaction from Donald Trump. The former President questioned the wisdom of allowing a man too old and mentally tired to be charged with a crime to stay in office as commander-in-chief of the United States. Calling the President “grossly incompetent” in a recent speech, Trump said Biden “got off scot-free” apart from being labeled “a mental basket case.”
Democrats rushed to the President’s defense, saying there is no shame in being a well-meaning old man. Delaware Senator Chris Coons said the report went too far, while former Attorney General Eric Holder expressed a similar sentiment to Harris and called the remarks “gratuitous.”
