Recall Details

A recall has been issued for approximately 1,944 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) wiener products made by Dearborn Sausage Company, Inc. due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, including soy and pork. The recall followed a retailer’s complaint that led to the discovery of swapped labels on the products. The affected hot dogs include “BROOKSIDE BRAND FULLY COOKED NATURAL CASING BEEF WIENERS” and “BROOKSIDE BRAND NATURAL CASING FULLY COOKED WIENERS” with lot codes A0122024 and A0322024 respectively, and sell-by dates of 11/05/2024.

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has specified that the products in question were produced on August 7, 2024, and shipped to retail locations in Ohio, bearing the establishment number “EST. 10002” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Dearborn Sausage determined that beef and pork products were mislabeled as beef wiener products and vice versa. As a result, soy and pork were not declared on the respective product labels, posing a potential health risk for consumers with soy or pork allergies. FSIS has classified this recall as a USDA Class I, indicating a high or medium risk of serious health consequences or death.

Consumer and Retailer Guidance

Consumers are advised not to consume the recalled products. They should dispose of or return the items to the place of purchase for a refund. The USDA stated, “FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ and retailers’ refrigerators and/or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
