(RepublicanView.org) – According to authorities in Ohio, a mother jumped on the hood of her car while attempting to rescue her 6-year-old child from a carjacking.
On Thursday, July 11 at around 1:30 a.m., tragedy struck at the White Oak Park Condominiums in Columbus. Alexa Stakely, 29, had arrived to pick up her kid from a babysitter when the incident occurred.
After bringing the sleeping child to her Honda CRV, Stakely went back to the house to retrieve her possessions, but she forgot to switch off the engine.
As fate would have it, thieves allegedly seized the opportunity and attempted to steal the automobile.
The mother got on the hood and tried to stop the perpetrators after yelling at them to stop and claiming her child was in the car. However, they reportedly stepped on the gas and took off.
According to the police, the mother was gravely injured after falling from the automobile; she passed away later at Mount Carmel East Hospital.
According to the police, eyewitnesses saw two guys fleeing from the car and entering an adjacent apartment building. The child was discovered in the deserted vehicle, sound asleep and unhurt.
The two males suspected of attempting to steal Stakely’s car were reportedly part of a larger group of individuals who were observed peering into nearby residences just before the incident, according to the police.
The police feel there were many people involved, and all had full knowledge of the consequences of their actions. Sgt. James Fuqua stated that even if they didn’t know at the time, they must now be aware of what their actions caused.
Investigators said that two of the men’s descriptions in the group were identical to the two would-be carjackers.
Authorities requested the public’s assistance in reviewing security camera footage in the event that someone captured crucial material that might aid in their investigation.
To help support her child, Stakely took on two jobs: one as a speech-language pathologist at Winchester Trail Elementary’s preschool program and the other as a waitress.
Hayden Swartz, her younger brother, spoke about how great of a mother she was.
He said she was an absolutely remarkable individual who possessed a genuine passion for working with children, a gift for teaching them, and an impressive level of expertise in her field.
