Woman Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Husband's Mountain Dew

(RepublicanView.org) – A woman in Missouri is facing serious charges after she allegedly put dangerous chemicals in her husband’s beverage.

The woman, 47-year-old Michelle Peters from Lebanon, MO, is in jail without bond and facing charges related to domestic assault and armed criminal activities. David Millsap, the sheriff of Laclede County, said it was a unique assault case. He also acknowledged that men can be victims of domestic violence too while noting that such cases often don’t get the attention they deserve.

Her husband became suspicious after noting that the Mountain Dew he kept in his refrigerator began tasting odd. He brushed off the odd taste at first but became seriously ill after a couple of weeks. His symptoms included diarrhea, vomiting, a sore throat, and nausea. He began coughing up thick mucus soon after.

He installed a hidden security camera on June 12 to monitor his beverages. It later reportedly caught his wife picking up a container of Roundup, a product used to kill weeds, and his Mountain Dew bottles and bringing them into the house. She could be seen returning them a short time later. He then shifted his routine to verify whether she was actually attempting to poison him and eventually watched the footage live before showing it to police.

Peters originally suggested her husband might have a virus when he mentioned feeling sick. She advised him to stay away from their grandchildren. However, he suspected that she may have wanted his $500,000 life insurance policy or that she might be having an affair.

Peters initially told police that she saw a new way to create a more effective weed killer by blending it with Mountain Dew. However, she later claimed that she began poisoning her husband because she felt he wasn’t grateful enough for the 50th birthday party she hosted for him. She also said that she was being “selfish” and wished that she would’ve just filed for a divorce. However, she still pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Peters worked as an esthetician at a spa near Lebanon. Jackie Sporat, who owns a gaming shop near the spa, said she was surprised and in disbelief over the incident.
