(RepublicanView.org) – Two people are facing charges in Las Vegas after being arrested over an alleged $650,000 casino heist. The incident, which is reported to have taken place on Thursday, July 18, at a Primm Valley Casino, saw two men allegedly access the casino cage area and steal cash that was stored inside. The alleged theft saw John Salmen and Lydia Salmen enter the restricted area through a small hole that they saw in the cage bars. The couple is understood to have remained in the area for roughly one hour.
The theft was eventually discovered by a casino employee who noticed that drawers had been opened and coins were dropped on the floor in the area.
The casino, which is located on the Nevada-California state line, alerted the authorities as soon as they noticed the missing money. Local authorities then tracked the couple via CCTV footage of their vehicle and previous interactions reported with casino officers. Officers eventually accessed the hope of the couple and discovered that they had walked out with around $650,000 in cash and a further $27,000 worth of casino chips. Public records show that the Salmens were both arrested and charged with burglary and theft.
Reports suggest that the pair jumped over a counter to access the cage while a member of staff was not present. Video footage showed the pair leaving the casino and headed toward a nearby outlet mall. It was at this time that detectives learned the married couple was involved in a disturbance at the same casino back in June. Investigators reviewed footage from an officer’s body camera to obtain a license plate number of the couple, allowing officers to find their names and Las Vegas address.
Brad Egnor, a representative for Affinity Interactive, a multi-channel gaming operator that runs the casino, expressed thanks to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for recovering all but $300 of the funds that were stolen from the casino on July 18. Egnor praised the resort’s “robust” security practices as well as the support from the Las Vegas police, and promised that the casino will remain vigilant and committed to protecting the safety and security of all members of their team.
The news comes after another man was charged with stealing from a Las Vegas casino was wheeled into a courtroom in a restraint chair and wearing a spit mask after refusing to cooperate with authorities. Scott Carmitchel was accused of stealing $43,500 from a cashier at the Bellagio.
